Summary/Abstract: In the context of the planned construction of the Corridor V/c highway through Bosnia and Herzegovina Centre for Balkan Studies of the ANUBiH has made the beforehand identification of the endangered archaeological monuments in the construction zone of the highway. Identification of those monuments has been made in the first half of 2009 in the frame of the project “Orientation archaeological research on the alignment of the Corridor V/c through the Federation of BiH”, financed by the Federal Ministry of Science and Education. According to the methodology of archeological work, such identification represents first step and inevitable base for the further actions in the range of the protection of the endangered cultural heritage. Identification of the sites has been made upon the studies of the existing documentation from the archaeological archives, and upon the areal-photo layers 1:5 000 and 1:25 000 which are constituent part of the highway alignment documentation. In this term, it was possible to determine and identify prehistoric hill-top settlements, stone and earth burial mounds, necropolis of stećci, and wide river terraces which were suitable for the population in the early prehistoric periods. Within the four sections of the highway in the Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the length of 330 km (LOT 1-4), have been identified 228 archaeological monuments that need an indispensable intervention before the start of the construction works. For each site has been created a database with information on names, position within the alignment with geocoordinates, as well with close cultural, typological and chronological determination, and with the existing bibliographical references. Sites from all culturalhistoric epochs are represented, and their number is not surprising at all, since the route is going through the valleys of the Bosna and Neretva rivers, which have always been the cadre of life and main communication between Central European (Pannonian) and Mediterranean (Adriatic) cultural circles. By creation of this comprehensive documentation have been produced required conditions for the further evaluation and set up of the criteria of the scope of the protection for each of the endangered monuments. Insurance of the proper and high quality protection of the endangered cultural heritage is statutory obligation for the constructors as well as for the responsible institutions for the protection.
