Summary/Abstract: The article follows the progress of institutionalisation of research and teaching of various areas of chemistry in select faculties of medicine of German-speaking Central Europe. Main focus is on specialised institutes of applied medical chemistry in Prague and Vienna and institute of physiological chemistry in Leipzig, which serve as examples of the “Austrian” and “German” model.
