A vallásügyi kérdés az erdélyi politikai életben a reformkorban

Summary/Abstract: Th e study deals with the complete set of religious problems and debates performed by Transylvanian states during the reform era in the National Assembly of Transylvania. In the fi rst chapter we tried to draw a short sketch of the development of the question during the 18th century in order to provide a key of understanding. Th e study has as topic not only the debates on religious issues between Catholics and Protestants, conservatives and liberals. It also reveals the content of the documents found in the Archives of Archbishopric of Alba Iulia related to what happened in matter of religion on the political battlefi eld of the era. Th ese sources are essential to get a new perspective on the position of the Catholic Church on issues like aversions from Catholicism, intermarriages and other injuries of Transylvanian Protestantism during the absolutism of Francis the 1st. Th ese documents show us, that Catholic bishop Miklós Kovács couldn’t avoid confl ict with liberal States of the country which assumed the defense of Protestant rights on the highest level. Th ese documents let us also know the ways the Catholic Church cooperated with the power in order to keep her privileges. We also fi nd a considerable argumentation of Catholic positions taken on diff erent issues. Th ese arguments of juridical and theological nature refl ect both the contemporary Catholic way of thinking about society and politics and the theological position of the Catholic Church on dogmatical topics such as marriage or ecclesiology.
