Summary/Abstract: The contention of this paper is that the dynamics of the new religious pluralism influence the global political landscape, with significant impacts upon international order. To provide evidence for the claim that (1) transnational religious actors are influential in international relations and (2) what they do can be important for international order, the paper focuses on two sets of transnational religious actors: American Evangelical Protestants and al-Qaeda. Religion impacts on international relations with ramifications for international order. The first part of the paper addresses this issue conceptually. The second part of the paper examines the issue empirically, with an examination of two transnational religious actors: American Evangelical Protestants and al-Qaeda.
