Summary/Abstract: The development of literary studies in Estonia in the years 2008–2009 is analysed. There are several theories and trends that have influenced Estonian literary studies: literary study is often mixed with other disciplines such as philoso phy, history, sociology etc., and usually literary study is connected with cultural studies. The main topics in Estonian literature of recent years have been national history and identity, collective and individual memory, while our critics and researchers interpret literary works by interdisciplinary methods. Another object of research has been literary influences and cultural contacts. There are but a few articles on poetics and traditional literary theory, as well as on Estonian literary history, which also includes the history of Baltic-German literature and Estonian literature in Russian. In general, it seems that Estonian literary studies and Estonian literature have changed into a more international and heterogeneous phenomenon that can be interesting also for foreign readers and researchers.
