Summary/Abstract: Generally speaking, “identity” is a multifaceted topic that currently continues to have a great deal of salience in critical theory and cultural studies media research. While concepts of both individual and collective identity have arisen historically in relation to mostly psychoanalytical and social/psychological theory, a critical approach to, for example, national identity has also incorporated learnings from globalization, literary theory, critical race theory, feminism, and postcolonial critiques, among other perspectives.
