Summary/Abstract: Fortifications with additional buildings used like residential towers are quite common on the territory of contemporary Bulgaria. All currently known monuments like the mentioned ones were self-contained fortification structures. It is possible to assume that the tower in the northern part of the fortress above Zelendol had the same characteristics and it was used like a strategic point of observation of the Struma River ravine in the period of uncertain geopolitical relationships between Bulgaria and Byzantium in the beginning of the XIII century.
