Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the state of energy markets at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century that are the result of the globalization of markets and market developments, as well as the impact of geopolitics on energy supplies in Southeastern Europe. Energy consumption that followed the wave of industrialization in Asian and South American countries and occasional geopolitical crises that have affected energy supply have led to an increase in energy prices. Additional volatility in energy markets has been the consequence of occasional instability in European supplies of natural gas from Russia, due to unresolved issues regarding transport routes. Indeed, the current crisis in Ukraine may impact the supply of energy to Southeastern Europe.
