Summary/Abstract: A presentation of the anthology Współczesne teorie przekładu [‘Contemporary Theories of Translation’], edited by Piotr Bukowski and Magda Heydel, Kraków 2009. The review discusses the volume’s individual sections along with selected theoretical concepts in the area of contemporary translation studies – for instance, the classical article by Roman Jakobson on the sign and symbol. The author also voices reservations, e.g. on the didactic orientation of the anthology and its accessibility. These critical remarks ensue from a comparison of this anthology with the English-language publication by Lawrence Venuti, which shows selected theoretical concepts in a different manner. Handzel’s analysis of the volume by Bukowski and Heydel proves that translation studies form a multidimensional domain which needs being further explored.
