PSYCHOBIOGRAPHY VERSUS BIOGRAPHY OF EDWARD DEMBOWSKI: A comparative study

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to conlpare methodological characteristics of psychobiography with those of classical biography. In this context, it discusses such issues as conceptualization of an object of study, analysis of sources, interpretation and explanation. The author advocates values of psycho-biographical approach within the current debate on the state of Polish biography writing. Various Polish biographies of Edward Dernbowski (and other publications referring to him), together with a psychobiography of Derrlbowski by an American psycho-historian Charles Strozier (who is rather unknown in Poland) form the empirical basis of the study.
