Summary/Abstract: The article analyses and evaluates five Polish stagings of i\.nton Chekhov's Three Sisters from the years 1909-1971. The first three ones: directed by Aleksander Zelwerowicz (Łódź, 1909), Bronisław Dąbrowski (Kraków, 1949) and Erwin Axer (Warszawa, 1963) were kept in the poetics of psychological realism, whereas Axer' s performance was the closest to Chekhov. The other two ones were apparently distant from Chekhov: Adam Hanuszkiewicz (Warszawa, 1971) applied a sad drama style on the one hand, and a brutal vaudeville on the other, while Jerzy Jarocki (Kraków, 1969) consequently applied the poetics of grotesque.
