Summary/Abstract: Notes on Christian archaeology. 8. A gnostic gemstone found at Garvăn/Dinogetia (Moesia Inferior). The author (N. Gudea) brings into discussion a gnostic gemstone discovered in the corner tower of the Roman Fort at Garvăn/Dinogetia. The discoverer prof. dr. Gh. Ştefan published the gemstone, identified the representation (Abrasax), dated it for the 3rd century in accordance with the archaeological context, but he did not clarify the text from the avers and reverse of item. Neither the researchers of Christianity from Dobrogea and Bucharest succeded to do it during the decades following the publication1. In the present note the author (N. Gudea) gives an interpretation, both gnostic and christian, of the text from the avers of the gemstone. The text comprises the name of the God (Abrasax), a group of typical vowels (AEIOYW), a part of a Christian formula (eirene ten emin), the IAW symbol and a prayer (Kyrie bouthe Niketa aner). The note done so for means a start in the further study of the mentioned item.
