Summary/Abstract: Archaeological activities in the hermitage in Tomb 1152 were carried out foremost in the courtyard situated on the rock terrace in front of the entrance to the Middle Kingdom tomb. They were undertaken with a view to determine the northern and southern limits of the hermitage and to define the function of the explored area. Excavations were extended into the interior of a mud-brick tower, investigating layers beneath the tower’s original usage level. Probing inside a deep shaft was aimed at verifying a hypothesis of its having been explored in early 20th century and at locating entrances to lower parts of the tomb. Meanwhile, books discovered in 2005 underwent conservation treatment, permitting the contents to be identified. The work concentrated on parchment cards that were divided into two parts, based on their contents. The bigger set holds excerpts from the Book of Isaiah, while the lesser set is part of the apocryphal Martyrium Petri. Both have been dated provisionally to the 9th-10th century.
