Summary/Abstract: Pluriethnic and pluriconfesional character of Transylvania made inevitable the relations between different ethnicities and different denominations. The marriages between different denominations were considered mixed marriages and captured the attention of the both clerical and temporal leaders. In this framework the main institutions that governed the transylvanian society in the modern era, the church and the secular institutions, had been trying to give a legislation frame to control the mixed marriages esspecially from the point of view of the church leaders. One of the most disputed aspect between the denominations that were part of a marriage were regarding the priest that officiated the wedding ceremony and the religion of the children from the mixed marriages. This study will focus on this topic presenting the legislative frame from the point of view of the churches in Transylvania and also the secular authorities. The legislative frame always created an ideal behaviour wich was not all the times similar with the factual behaviour of the society. The period on which we focus is between the middle of the nineteenth century and 1894, when the marriage became a secular affair and the region is Alba Iulia and Năsăud.
