Summary/Abstract: The author examines the issue of Magi theatrical idiom originating in the Christian feast of Epiphany and in the more archaic celebration of winter solstice. She conceives this idiom as open to racial, religious and cultural presentation of otherness, and as a situational model for the projection of specific historical events – as illustrated by the example of Tuscan narrative painting from the 15th century. The central part of the study draws on two examples. The first analyzes a fragment from Ballek’s performance Tiso, the second an itinerant theatrical activity of Dobrá novina’s carolling. This is seen as a new theatrical phenomenon in terms of cultural and social functions and is characterized by its strong territorial expansion.
