Summary/Abstract: The paper proposes to analyze the individual identity, noticing the modalities of redefining it, during the assault of the modern thinking on the medieval thinking, the deconstruction of the essential individual identity, centered on the ego-divinity axis or on the ego-self in the medieval period, and the reconstruction of a multiple identity, in modern times. Studying the relationship between individualism and solitude is necessary for the understanding of individual – community relationship in the post-Renaissance period.
