Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a review of the public policy of multiculturalism in Canada from its beginnings in the 1970s untill now. The special attention has been paid to the analysis both of the political and demographical factors that contributed to the emergency, shaping and evolution of the policy, and of the supporting governement’s documants and acts (Immigration Act, 1967; Offcial Language Act, 1969; Report of the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, 1967-1970; Act for the preservation and enhancement of multiculturalism in Canada, 1988; 9th Annual Report on the Operation of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act, 1996-1997). The author also tries to present the scope of recent cirticism of the policy, as well as to point at same balanced arguments, which offer different approach to the complex problem of ethnocultural justice in Canada.
