Gender identity: from Rigid to More Flexible Coceptions

Summary/Abstract: Although development of gender identity is one of the main issues in psychoanalysis, with significant repercussions on theoretical model in general, at present there is no singular reading of this phenomenon. This paper focuses on interpretations of leading theorists by outlining main streams of conceptual development of gender identity: from biological to psychosocial; from bisexual, through sexually undifferentiated to heterosexual; from oedipal astern to pregenital; from extensive towards narrower which is more inclusive.
