Summary/Abstract: Author of the study compares two translations of a Chekhov short story On Love (translated into Czech at the beginning of the 20th and of the 21st centuries) and notices developmental tendencies pertaining Czech syntactic constructions. The tendency to occupy the subject position with a personal noun, recession of allochttonous transformed structures and replacing of transgressives and verbal adjectives by dependent clauses appear as the most important changes.
