Summary/Abstract: Ecaterina Bălăcioiu-Lovinescu was the perfect embodiment of what Julia Kristeva calls “the female genius”. In the absence of her daughter, Monica, mother Ecaterina goes through all stages of despair. There is only one thing she could do, however, which is to write to her daughter every day and thus keep her close to her heart. Mother has nothing to oppose to the intensifying terror of Stalinist abuses but the power of love. There is no force in the world that can prevent her from striving for a psychical un-separation from her daughter. The letters are the result of this attempt. These letters have a powerful effect of catharsis, they are the carrier of a guiltless guilty charge. The editor of the book, Astrid Cambose, follows closely the relationship between premonitory deeds and their expression.
