Summary/Abstract: Religious life, regardless its configuration, has as its first aim human’s inner reunification and the restoring of his intimate dialogue with God. Christ is the model par excellence of this process. In this frame, Spiritual Theology focuses on the spiritual experience described as participation to Christ’s own life. In this research we will try to identify the place Spiritual Theology occupies within the Christian Theology, in general, and academic Theology, in particular. The first section will be dedicated to the specific technical terminology, followed by the analyse of the relationship between theology and spirituality from a historical perspective, and, finally, we will point to the very topic in discussion – the place Spiritual Theology occupies within contemporary theological academic study: definition, objectives, method and purpose.
