Summary/Abstract: The paper offers a kaleidoscopic view upon the announced problem. First of all it analyzes the almost axiomatic presence of Prague pub in Czech literature. The choice falls upon the works of three best known fiction writers – I. Herrmann, J. Hašek, B. Hrabal representing different epochs in the development of Czech literature. Special attention has been paid to the place that the Prague pub has in the local community. The types of pubs have been investigated as well as the different roles and functions of the bartender, the characteristic features and life of non formal pub communities. Meanwhile the study covers a number of other problems connected with the typology of the pub as a Czech phenomenon.
