From Objective to Subjective: Between Innovation and Revival. Aspects of the Romanian Interwar Novel

Summary/Abstract: The Romanian critics E. Lovinescu and G. Ibrăileanu, although opposite from the ideological point of view, express similar ideas referring to the theory and practice of the modern novel. Thus, both Lovinescu and Ibrăileanu emphasize the necessity of the objectivation process in the native literary prose by rejecting the melodramatic excesses or the tendentious presence of the author in the narrative text. The writer Camil Petrescu shares a similar vision with those two, although, for defining the same technique, he uses an opposite term. The author stresses the subjective side of the novelistic writings, by which, however, she does not understand a plaintive writing, but only an assumption of the fictional world created.
