THE EMBEDDING OF CONCESSIVE ‘ALORS QUE’ CONSTRUCTIONS

Summary/Abstract: The Embedding of Concessive ‘alors que’ Constructions. Studies conducted in recent years on the structures introduced by a subordination marker highlighted on the basis of robust criteria that they can’t be reduced to mere grammatically dependent clauses, but they involve discursive or textual relations. We analyze here the use of a particular form alors que which, although it fails paradigmatic insertion tests, can be syntactically integrated, in association with another verbal structure, as a complement governed by a verb.
