Summary/Abstract: In this article I will endeavor to analyze the current issues of the Ukrainian linguistic policies with a focus on Russian language status in the context of last political and legislative processes in Ukraine. Three main points will be highlighted here. The first one is conducive for tracking the roots of the modern linguistic situation in Ukraine since this element will serve as a foundation for all further research of the status of Russian language. The second one deals with the established linguistic situation through the prism of the Ukrainian legislation in this sphere. The last, perhaps the most important one, touches on the feasible ways of alleviating the problems and reinforcing the prospects for amelioration
