Summary/Abstract: Typology of parties in conflict constitutes one of the most important steps in conflict research. It provides us with tools to analyze importance of various agents involved in conflict. One of the most influential recent typologies is the model used by Uppsala Conflict Data Program. Its main shortcoming is only two dimensional understanding of parties. This seems to be inadequate, so a tertiary level should be added based on various other typologies. Furthermore, the definition of secondary level conflict parties is not sufficient since it does not allow researchers to grasp the importance of non-state actors. The main objective of this paper is thus to develop new typology which will enable us to analyze positions and strategies of all parties involved in modern conflicts. Conflict in Angola has been chosen to illustrate this new approach.
