Summary/Abstract: This paper engages with the idea of the autonomous nature of art in Schelling and Hegel’s systems and the relation between art and philosophy. Accordingly, while referring to Schelling’s writings, this paper will be exploring generally the idea of conscious and unconscious activity in art as well as its projections. We shall also look how in Hegel art is explicated as first form of the spirit and its relation to the system as a whole. Furthermore, fantasy would also be problematized, first as rational subjective and creative activity of the artist and second as a relation between imagination and fantasy. Without taking up the discussion of aesthetics classification here, we can nevertheless point out that it has a significant place in both systems. The focus here, then, will be on the importance of philosophical rethinking of art and philosophy of art as its theoretical justification.
