Summary/Abstract: This article is part of a dissertation on the concept of motherly duty from its appearance to its possible presence on the Internet. The main purpose of this study is to demonstrate the difference between the phrase motherly duty and the philosophical use of the Bulgarian word duty, resulting from the translation of Kant‘s concept of Pflicht in Bulgarian. The demonstration of this mismatch will show that motherly duty, in its use in Bulgarian languadge, is a phrase with independent appearance of that of the Deontology. This means that motherly duty should be defined in a discourse broader than the philosophical one. For this purpose, I have retraced the formation of the connection between the words mother and duty in the first printed editions, addressed to mothers, pregnant women and women in labor and I show the publications, where Kant’s concept of Pflicht is translated with the Bulgarian word duty.
