Summary/Abstract: The post-communist countries of Central Europe − the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Slovenia − after the Second World War found themselves in the sphere of Soviet influence which lasted until the end of the 1980s when the Communist governments collapsed. All the countries have experienced profound social transformation at the beginning of the 1990s. Currently, they are characterized by joint efforts to complete the transformation of all the components of economy and the social system and to create a functional democratic system. Despite tremendous progress the observed countries are still different from countries of “Old Europe” in many aspects. The analysis of the current state of legislation con¬cerning the home education in the post-communist countries of Central Europe confirmed many similarities. However, significant differences among them were also detected. This shows that regardless of the similar experience the individual states are dealing autonomously with similar problems and challenges.
