Summary/Abstract: The article examines the geographical aspects of the automotive industry, representing a dominant branch of industry, in the decade after the millenium. The analysis of county employment data contains dynamic and quality elements, too, and it attempts to examine the branch’s multiplier effects, as well. On the basis of these criteria it identifies several regions on the territory of Hungary. The persistently dynamic North-westerly region (1), the Central region (2) facing problems since the crisis, and the newly emerging poles (3), are not only important sites of the industry, but in their automotive industry mainly the presence of quality elements and the supplier branches are significant. The southern (4) and the eastern peripheries play minor role in this industry. Their separation is justified besides their geographical position by the character of their automotive industry: counties of the eastern periphery show above average performance at least from one aspect. Budapest (6), which is no longer a focal area of this industry, represents a specific position through quality elements and a strong supplier background.
