Summary/Abstract: In The Book of Kings, the poet Firdawsī depicts a cosmic struggle between Good and Evil through heroes and their opponents. The medieval illuminators reproduce some scenes of confrontation where heroes use trickery and illusion. But the main hero, the king’s saviour, Rustam, is both a trickster and a tragic character.
