Summary/Abstract: Multiligualism as one of the most important European educational goals implies social multilingualism and plurilingualism, and it can be achieved by learning and acquiring several foreign languages in school. In order to conduct multingual education, it is necessary to analyse the existing conditions, as well as address a number of issues. How are several foreign languages acquired? What is the role and influence of the mother and English language on the learning of other foreign languages? What are the principles of language teaching and didactic methods of tertiary languages? To carry out multiligualism is a very complex process that should be observed from a linguistic, sociolinguistic, psycholinguistic, or educational perspective. Since there are a lot of aspects of teaching multiligualism, the aim of this paper is to provide an insight into greater issues and present arguments for endorsing multilingual education. The existing models of teaching and acquiring several languages will be presented, former research on the interlingual transfer of the mother language, English as the first, and German as the second language will be reviewed, and the aspects of new language teaching and didactic methods of multilingualism will be discussed. The advantages of this new concept will be indicated, along with the lack of research and still open questions related to its application.
