Summary/Abstract: Although language for specific purposes (LSP), as a language system, does not differ from general language except in terminological lexis, LSP teaching somewhat differs from foreign language teaching (FLT) primarily by combining subjectmatter teaching and FLT in an appropriate context. If LSP takes place in an academic setting, together with knowledge and skills related to the foreign language and subject matter, it is also necessary to develop academic language competence and performance in the foreign language as well as in the mother tongue. In this paper, we illustrate these postulates by describing English for specific purposes (ESP) courses and activities for students of information technologies, both in the traditional and elearning systems. The illustrated activities combine FLT and ESP, subjectmatter teaching, and the use of language (both English and Serbian) for academic purposes of reading expert literature in English, writing seminar papers and projects in Serbian, and oral presentations of seminar papers and projects in English or in Serbian.
