Summary/Abstract: The paper speaks about science, philosophy and religion as ways of attitude toward the world and the cognition of that world. A close connectedness of faith and science is pointed out, and the question of theology as science is raised, comparing it with mathematics. The role of facts in science is also stressed, and in this connection the problem of inductive cognition pointed out. The paper also refers to some criticisms of the scientific method by top scientists. Besides the empirical and inductive way of cognition there are also other ways of cognition (deductive-axiomatic, intuitive and the like). It is pointed out that also in science there are elements of faith. Finally the question will be opened whether there is a place for God in science. At the end the question arises as to how much faith, the Church and science used to be in conflict, and whether their conflict is of an essential nature or just a peripheral phenomenon, and who actually blocks the progress of science.
