Summary/Abstract: The article announces unknown fragments of the acrostic of the Slavonic funeral canon found by P. Penkova. These passages are the first actual proof that the copies of the canon really bear traces of an original (non-translated) Slavonic chant. The acrostic fragments display both language tendencies young for the ninth century (when the canon was probably written) and archaic features possibly leading back to the Mission of St. Cyril and St. Method in Great Moravia.
