Summary/Abstract: A new date for the Inaugural Oration of Michael of Anchialos, published by R. Browning, is put forward on the basis of a new investigation of the historical events recorded in the text: the Lecture in question was delivered not in 1165/1167, as scholars had maintained so far, but a short time after 1151. Some echoes from the works of Philo Judaeus in the text are also detected.
