Summary/Abstract: The subject of this paper is related to the Games in ancient Greece that held athletic and equestrian competitions. Sometimes they were completed with music contests. These Games were dedicated to Greek gods and dead heroes. There were those that were of a local character, and those of Panhellenic character, the Panhellenic games. Competition in many different sports disciplines direct us to the conclusion that these Games can be considered the forerunner of today's multisport competitions. As a pagan custom, Theodosius I banned Games in 394th, but they were in some cities continued to the beginning of VI century AD. and as a regular Hippodrome competition in Byzantium they survived until the thirteenth century AD. The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of the Games that were held in ancient Greece.
