Summary/Abstract: The article presents the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich, the second in Germany as far as its size is concerned, founded in 1558. Besides a series of local duties, this library, together with Deutsche Bibliothek in Frankfurt-am-Main and Staatsbibliothek from Berlin, functions as German national library and it deals with digitizing the materials before 1700. Among its many departments, the manuscripts and rare books one stands out through its impressive collection of incunabula and rare editions printed after 1500.
