Summary/Abstract: In the article I try closer to determine the spatial status of space in Witkacy’s dramas based on distinctions drawn from Lacanian psychoanalytic theory (the imaginary, the symbolic, the real). I try to demonstrate that this space is anamorphic, its structure being in a way deliberately “deflected” by the author. Related to that is special “psychological” status of the characters appearing in the novels by the author of Kurka wodna. I propose that they form an abundant menagerie of psychopath types, driven by pure instinctive impulses and absolutely cynical in their attitudes towards others. They are real human monsters, usually combining the elements of neurotic, psychotic and perverse structures. I also point out the particular “experimentatory” approach of Witkacy to the creative act, which is a major difference between the world presented in his works from those of Gombrowicz and Schulz.
