Przyboś the uncanny

Summary/Abstract: The article refers to research on the „dark” Przyboś (A. Nawarecki, among the others), by outlining a comparative perspective. Contrary to the thesis of M.P. Markowski, Przyboś cannot be reduced to the image of metaphysical poet, but he also happens to be, from time to time, an artist bearing the mark of the Uncanny (das Unheimliche). Tertium comparationis of these two writers – completely different at first sight – is the traumatic experience of the Thing, which resists to united powers of seeing and speaking (in Markowski’s view the “metaphysics”). To the rescue of the Przybosian unraveling subject comes the Gombrowicz’s other, or – to be precise – the Other: the painter.
