Summary/Abstract: The subject of the text are late modern forms of urban community, observed in the situation of progressive neo-liberalization of the metropolis. In the text I argue that the communities described nowadays are often bearers of the sign of returning suppressed contents, Freudian das Unheimliche. A. Vidler and C. Strathausen remark in this context that as it refers to the city the disturbance in the form of the uncanny appears as a result of attempts to make public space more transparent and homogenous by eliminating all that is unclear and does not submit to effective administration. I see a possibility for urban communities to exist in applying critical spatioanalytic perspective. But exploring what’s suppressed and unvoiced, it allows to conduct more effective politics of resistance and change, catalyzing the rebirth of another suppressed object – the urban utopia.
