SOLIDARITY MOVEMENTS OF THE GREEK-CATHOLICS FROM TRANSYLVANIA IN THE MID 1800s

Summary/Abstract: This is a study of documents from the residence of the Greek-Catholic Archpriest from Târgu-Mures. We have uncovered important information regarding the status of the Greek- Catholic Church and the condition of Catholics from other countries in the mid 1800s. The Catholic Church was in financial difficulty at the time and Pope Pius IX decided to help the parishes in need. The Greek-Catholic Church from Transylvania was invited to take part in these actions, which were also aimed at spreading Catholicism in the Middle East, Bosnia, Galicia, Spain, Sweden, America and Africa.
