That is why in the course of history thinkers were permanently occupied in the explication of its content. Kant constituted a new concept of morality which inspired a new interpretation of dignity, according to which human dignity was autonomous, independent of external factors and self-legislative. Kant's ideas concerning human dignity play a significant role in the contemporary understanding of personal dignity and democracy.
