Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses translation problems that arise due to the lack of equivalence between English and Serbian with respect to the grammatical dimension of the languages. The mixing of the grammatical patterns of different languages in the IUNP student translations informs us about the general features of different grammar categories. According to the widely held view, bilingual competence is always asymmetrical as the dominant language, here Serbian, influences the weaker one, here English. Hence, student translations often suffer from the interference of their knowledge of Serbian grammar which leads to a faulty output.
