Summary/Abstract: The paper presents semantic analysis of lexemes denoting red colour introduced by J. Słowacki in his drama Beatryks Cenci. The subject of research was to determine lexical-semantic field focuses on the adjective {czerwony} (‘red’). The analysis includes also description of meaning relations between components within this field: synonymy (especially between {czerwony} – ‘red’ and {krwawy} – ‘blood-red’), hyponymy and ambiguity. The author focused on varied poetic contexts. Semantic-lexical field was defined as hierarchical set of words connected with similar meaning. Among lexemes of this field there are: adjectives, verbs (including participles) and nouns. The analysis was based on monograph of R. Tokarski {The Structure of Semantic Field (Linguistic Study)}.
