Between semantics and pragmatics. On some (quasi)-tautological constructions with {jak}

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is the description of the “quasi-tautological” combinations of the word {jak} in nominal constructions such as (A) {Dziewczyna jak dziewczyna, nic szczególnego}, (B) {Na wojnie jak na wojnie}, (C){ Babcia jak to babcia, ciągle niezadowolona}, (D) {Geniusz jak geniusz, ale co najmniej zdolny człowiek}. They exemplify the problem of extracting actual units of language and identification of their basic invariant features in a way that respects the principle of separating semantics from pragmatics. The analysis shows that only the expressions {_jak_} in (A) and (D) are separate units.
