"The Magical Latin American Unconscious Mind'" in Brazilian and Cuban Cinema

Summary/Abstract: The text attempts to look beyond the cultural Europecentrism towards the civilisational-cultural paradigm of Latin America; to find confirmation of the concept of its historical-cultural uniqueness by seeking the roots of the cultural synthesis in the complex interactions of different cultural layers. All this is analysed through the prism of the ideological, logical and visual suggestions of the Brazilian films Macunaima (Dir. Joaquim Pedro de Andrade), The Heirs (Dir.Carlos Diegues), Brazil, Anno 2000 (Walter Lima Jr.), Os Deuses e os mortos {Gods and the Dead, dir. Rui Guerra), Antonio das Mortes (Dir. Glauber Rocha) and the Cuban films The Days of Water (Dir. Manuel Octavio Gomez) and Cuban Fight against Demons {Una pelea cubana contra los demonios, Dir. Tomas Gutierres Alea).
