Unknown Frescoes by the Icon Painters Marko and Teofil Minovi in the Church of the Village Kapatovo, Melnik Region

Summary/Abstract: The article examines and attributes the frescoes in the church The Holy Virgin. Life-giving Source in the village of Kapatovo, Melnik region, which were made by the icon painters the brothers Marko and Teofil Minovi from the village of Karakioi (now Katafito in Greece). While researching the family ties of the icon painters from the Minovi clan and the monuments they have painted the author stumbled upon some new, unknown monuments, such as the church in the village Kapatovo. The iconographic program consists of biblical cycle situated in the semi-arch of the central nave and two images on the northern wall of the temple. The author analyses the specifics of the iconographic program. The study of the murals in this not well researched region of Bulgaria enriches our knowledge about the development of art on the Bulgarian lands.
