Summary/Abstract: Born in 1881, five years after the establishment of the modern Bulgarian state, Elisaveta Konsulova- Vazova realized her diverse talent in the time of the founding of the European cultural model, quite different from the inherited one. She was one of the first women that graduated the State School of Drawing which later became the Academy of Fine Arts. She became member of the first Bulgarian art association and took part in the early presentations of modern Bulgarian art abroad. She was one of the first artists of modern Bulgarian art. The early publications of Elisaveta Konsulova-Vazova on European art and her translations were deeply motivated by her strive for enlightenment. She started to publish articles on art in Bulgaria in her late 30s - when she had acquired enough experience and self-confidence following visits in the great museums, libraries and art exhibitions of Munich, Rome, etc. Her role in Bulgarian art criticism and cultural space expressed itself in her realized mission aimed at the modernization of Bulgarian culture and the participation of women in it.
