Summary/Abstract: Theater 199 has a very special place in the overall picture of the Bulgarian theater from the period of transition that distinguishes it not only from the theaters in Sofia but in the country in general. With its management and special artistic policy we can state that it asserted a space that retained the idea of the theater as an art. This took place under the management of Valentin Stoichev - director of the theater from 1991 until his death in 2007 and continues up to the present day. The theater's team follows this program with the strategic aim to turn Theater 199 into an established trade-mark. From its very founding in 1965 till the end of the 20th century Theater 199 was perceived as the only theater where chamber productions were staged where the stars of the Bulgarian theater participated. This distinguished it from the other Sofia theaters and offered a number of advantages. But it is still not a trade-mark. In order to achieve it the theater has repositioned itself and works according to the formula: „For the audience with exquisite taste Theater 199 is a theatrical space where they can experience a memorable delightful evening, because most of the stage productions are theatrical events, because the people really want to see the productions of the Theater in the unforgettable atmosphere of the sacral theater basement of Sofia".
